EMG STUDIES

GLUTEUS MEDIUS, GLUTEUS MAXIMUS, AD-DUCTOR LONGUS
– Standing Band & Seated Machine Ab-duction Ad-duction

Perceived Loading & Muscle Activity during Hip Strengthening: Elastic vs. Machine – 2013 – Brandt, Andersen
Procedure
– compare hip muscle activity with light load, moderate load, heavy load, near max load
– estimating 10 RM can be time‐consuming and difficult especially in patients that experience pain due to injured or healing tissues
– perceived loading using the Borg category ratio 10 scale (Borg CR10 scale)9 can be an alternate tool for estimating the intensity of a given exercise
– testing 11 muscles at the hip, thigh and trunk during hip adduction and hip abduction exercises
– 16 untrained women, using elastic resistance and isotonic exercise machines

ADDUCTOR MAGNUS
– Hip Ad-duction & Hip Extension

Adductor magnus: An EMG investigation into proximal and distal portions and direction specific action – 2018 – Benn
Procedure
– electrodes were inserted into two portions of Adductor Magnus of 12 healthy young adults
– Muscle activity was recorded during maximum voluntary isometric contractions (MVICs) across 8 tests
Results
Adductor Magnus
– This study suggests that adductor magnus has at least two functionally unique regions.
1. Hip Extension – Hip Flexion 0° Knee Flexion 90°: Proximal 100% . Distal 100%
2. Hip Ad-duction – Hip Flexion 0° Knee Flexion 0°: Proximal 60% . Distal 40%
3. Hip Ad-duction – Hip Flexion 45º Knee Flexion 90°: Proximal 30% . Distal 30%
4. Hip Ad-duction – Hip Flexion 90º Knee Flexion 90°: Proximal 15% . Distal 15%
5. Hip Internal Rotation – Hip Flexion 0º Knee Flexion 90°: Distal 60% . Proximal 15%
6. Hip External Rotation – Hip Flexion 0º Knee Flexion 90°: Proximal 15% . Distal 2%
7. Hip Flexion – Hip Flexion 0º Knee Flexion 90°: Proximal 2% . Distal 2%
8. Hip Ab-duction – Hip Flexion 0º Knee Flexion 0°: Proximal 1% . Distal 1%

ADDUCTOR LONGUS
– Copenhagens Standing Ad-duction, Seated Machine Ad-duction, Slider Ad-duction

EMG evaluation of hip adduction exercises for soccer players – 2014 – Serner
Procedure
– 40 healthy male elite soccer players, training >5 h a week; 6 traditional and 2 new hip adduction exercises
Results
Adductor Longus:
1. Copenhagen’s: 110%
2. Standing Band Ad-duction: 105%
3. Seated Machine Ad-duction: 100%
4. Slider Ad-duction: 100%
